Garden Give

The Big Garden Give

On Sunday 21st August 2011 the Big Give hosted its very first Big Garden Give, raising £2,600 for a wide range of charities.

The Big Give’s Founder, Sir Alec Reed, opened his Manor House Gardens in Little Compton to the public for only the second time in its history. Over 400 people attended, basking in the glorious sunshine and taking the opportunity to view the historic grounds of the Manor, which dates back to the 11th Century.

All proceeds raised from the Big Garden Give went to charity, with each visitor donating their £5 entry fee to a charity of their choice on the Big Give website and Sir Alec himself covering all administrative costs.

All in all, over £2,600 was raised for a range of charities such as Bampton Classical Opera and the Little Compton Village Hall, whose stalwarts ably provided the superb country teas. Some visitors even took the opportunity to donate their entry fee to the DEC and have their donation matched by the Big Give’s East Africa Emergency Fund.

Sir Alec said “a wonderful time was had by all and sharing two of my favourite pursuits, philanthropy and country living, with the local community was an experience that I will never forget.” Thank you to all Big Give supporters who joined us on the day.
